The U.S. Cattlemen’s Association takes issue with the Dietary Guidelines advisory committee for not giving full consideration to the benefits of low-carbohydrate diets.
Lia Biondo, the group’s policy director, tells Brownfield the draft report excludes all but one of dozens of studies on high-protein low-carb diets, “And ignores ALL the weight loss trials and more than 60% of Americans that have one or more chronic conditions which is obesity or diabetes.”
Biondo says the guidelines are important because they
regulate nearly every federal feeding program, “So if you’re looking at what
they’re feeding in schools, what they’re feeding in the military, what they’re
feeding in hospitals – it really does have a very far reaching effect and it’s so,
so important to get it right because so many different Americans are going to
rely on them.”
