Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he and his Iowa colleague Joni Ernst are pushing for assistance to ethanol producers as the Senate works on another coronavirus aid package this week.
“Senator Ernst and I are going to try to get something in
there that would subsidize feedstock to the ethanol industry,” Grassley says. “I
think what’s going to make our appeal credible, besides just the loss that
ethanol has had and that it didn’t get any help last time, is if petroleum gets
some help—or if we can show that petroleum has already gotten some help through
what was put in the strategic petroleum reserve.”
Grassley’s plan would reimburse biofuels producers for
their feedstock purchases from January 1st to March 31st
through the Commodity Credit Corporation.
