The National Pork Board is celebrating National Grilling Day with an all-day Grill-a-Thon. David Newman, president of the organization and a Missouri pork farmer, says COVID-19 has changed the way families consume meat – and at-home cooking has increased significantly.
He tells Brownfield the event is an opportunity for
consumers to try something new. “BBQ
fits into that perfectly,” he says. “Trying
different cuts, trying larger cuts, trying different rubs or spices or recipes.”
Newman says the Grill-a-Thon will also highlight the
different cuts of pork. “There are so
many versatile cuts that come from a pork carcass that we can use on the grill
to have fun with,” he says. “Pork just
fits naturally into a grilling event.”
The Grill-a-Thon will take place on July 22, via Facebook
Live on the National Pork Board’s Facebook page and will feature cooking
demonstrations throughout the day. “We’re
going to be talking about BBQ flavors from all over the world,” he says. “We’re going to be talking about cooking everything
from traditional things like pulled pork or pork chops and the other things we
tend to think about here in the United States.”
