Asian Longhorn Ticks have been detected in Kentucky and pose
a threat to pets and livestock.
University of Kentucky Extension Entomologist Jonathan Larson
says this specific tick is an aggressive biter and multiple ticks, potentially
thousands, tend to infest one host causing stress, reduced growth, and severe
blood loss. Several ticks were found on a bull in Metcalfe County that was
showing severe signs of fatigue. They were also found on elk and black bears in
Martin and Floyd counties.
