A very light direct cash cattle trade is being reported in the South. Deals in parts of Kansas are at $97 to $97.50. Bids have surfaced at $95 to $96 live in the South. Asking prices are at $100 live in the South and $162 dressed in the North. Look for more business to develop as the day progresses.
Boxed beef is mixed at midday on light to moderate demand
for light offerings. Choice is $.84
higher at $203.99 and Select is $.02 lower at $190.11. The Choice/Select spread is $13.28.
At the Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri, compared to
last week steers were steady, except 550 to 700-pound steers were steady to $2
higher. Heifers under 650 pounds were
steady, heifers 650 to 800 pounds were steady to $2 higher. The USDA says demand was good and supply was
moderate. Receipts were up on the week
and nearly steady on the year. Feeder
supply included 49 percent steers and 54 percent of the offering was over 600
pounds. Medium and Large 1 feeder steers
606 to 642 pounds brought $147 to $156 and feeder steers 700 to 742 pounds
brought $140 to $150.
