The Michigan Department of Agriculture has joined a growing number
of states warning about mysterious seeds in the mail.
Small packets of seed have been arriving in the mail which
appear to be from China and potentially are part of a “brushing” scam which fakes
online reviews after companies mail products to customers who never ordered
them.
Mike Philip, director of the department’s Pesticide and Plant
Pest Management Division, says they don’t know what type of seeds are being
mailed but they are potentially invasive and could be harmful to livestock.
