A partnership between the Kellogg Company, The Nature Conservancy, and USDA has enhanced the sustainability of 67,000 acres in Michigan’s largest watershed.

Program participant Mike Milligan, who farms in Cass City, tells Brownfield growers in the Saginaw Bay region are committed to farming better.

“Almost everyone comes from a family business and a lot of them are over a hundred years old, sustainability is almost in the definition of that.  We’re working towards building something that our kids can take over and run for their lifetimes.”

In the last five years, the project has kept nearly 4,000 tons of soil from leaving fields by using cover crops, no-till, and water drainage management practices.
