A farmer cooperative is encouraging people to comment on the proposed nutrition guidelines before time runs out Thursday night.  Julie Martin Sweeney with FarmFirst Dairy Cooperative says Health and Human Services and USDA officials still recognize the importance of dairy in the diet. “Dairy is a valuable source in closing that nutrient gap for vitamin D, vitamin A, calcium, potassium, iodine, which is incredibly important for pregnant women.”

But Martin Sweeney says the guidelines still don’t take into consideration the most recent science into saturated fats showing dairy fats are beneficial nutrition sources.
