The USDA says producers were prevented from planting more than 5 million intended corn acres and more than a million acres each of soybeans and wheat this year. While not as extreme as 2019, the 2020 planting season did feature widely varied conditions, including extremely wet weather in some areas during the early part of activity, and unharvested 2019 acres were also a big factor in some states.
North Dakota had the highest number of unplanted acres for all crops at 2,573,149, leading the way in corn, soybeans, and wheat, largely because of those unharvested 2019 acres.
