University of Illinois farm management specialist Gary Schnitkey recently released an article on Midwestern cash rents for 2020 and 2021.

He says while corn and soybean prices have been lower, government payments have helped support overall crop returns, which in turn is keeping rent levels stable.

But without more federal aid to farmers, Schnitkey suggests landlords will need to consider lowering cash rents in 2021.
