The USDA says there were 8,140 farmers markets operating in the U.S. last year. The primary months for most of those markets were June through October and 52.4% had Saturday as their most common day of operation.
Nearly all, 99.6%, had fruits and vegetables as the most common category for food, followed by condiments and sauces at 94.1%, bread and baking goods at 90.9%, plants at 86.5%, and meat, seafood, and eggs at 84.5%.
