A University of Missouri meat specialist says the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that consumers want meat.

“If COVID has shown me anything, we are still a nation of meat eaters. We saw some prices that got pushed pretty high and consumers put their dollars there and tried really hard to get a hold of those red meats and poultry products.”

Bryon Wiegand is also the technical advisor for the Missouri Association of Meat Processors.
