Researchers at Michigan State University say using a trap crop to reduce Soybean Cyst Nematode numbers is having promising results.
“There’s only one so far that we’ve found.”
Nematologist Marisol Quintanilla says trials are showing a reduction in nematode numbers in one particular legume where pests feed on roots but females aren’t able to develop.
“Some of them develop into males but no females reproduce, in other words, no increase in numbers.”
She highlighted the research as part of MSU’s Virtual Soybean Field Day Wednesday, saying farmers will have to wait until the study is published later this fall for more on the new control.
