A western Illinois farmer says his corn is beginning to show signs of stress and the hot, dry weather is speeding up maturity.
Joe Worthington, of Good Hope, says he hasn’t seen a measurable rain since April 11. “It’s (the corn) is on the downhill slide and we’re getting close to black layer here in this area,” he says. “Soybeans are really looking good, but a rain would finish them off.”
Worthington tells Brownfield he’ll start corn harvest in about 3 weeks.
