A slow Monday for direct cash cattle trade activity. Bids and asking prices have yet to surface. Showlists should be updated later today. There was a light to moderate trade took place last week. Deals in the South were at $104 to $105 live and there was light dressed trade that took place in the North, which ranged from $165 to $168. Both were below the previous week’s weighted averages.
Boxed beef is steady to lower at midday on light demand for light offerings. Choice is $2.05 lower at $227.35 and Select is $.05 lower at $214.81. The Choice/Select spread is $12.54.
At the open, at the Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri, compared to last week, steer calves were steady and heifer calves are steady to $3 higher.
