Hurricane Sally, now a category one, no longer appears on a direct path toward the major shipping ports in the New Orleans area. Mike Steenhoek, with the Soy Transportation Coalition, says the Alabama Gulf Coast and western Florida panhandle seem to be in the cross hairs.

USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says two major agriculture areas of the Southeast are also likely to be spared.

“With this system taking a more of an eastern turn, that should spare crops like cotton and rice in the Mississippi Delta.”

Rippey says the Atlantic coastal plain area where cotton, soybeans and peanuts are grow should also be spared.
