Compeer Financial senior swine lending specialist Chris Murphy says the coronavirus pandemic continues to send ripple effects across the food supply chain, and the pork sector is no exception. Processing slowdowns that occurred as workers got infected resulted in market-ready hogs with no place to go. Murphy says harvest capacity is improving, but there’s still plenty of uncertainty and a lot of risk for producers. And he suggests some of the changes brought on by COVID-19 could be here to stay.
