South Dakota farmers took advantage of nearly ideal conditions last week, harvesting corn, soybeans, sorghum, and sunflowers.

The latest weekly crop report from USDA says as of Sunday, 64 percent of the state’s corn acres have been combined.  That’s much faster than last year’s eight percent and the five-year average of 24 percent.

Soybeans are 90 percent harvested, well ahead of 27 percent last year and 60 percent normally.

The sorghum harvest is 87 percent complete, and sunflowers are 26 percent harvested.
