Persistently and increasingly cold weather across the nation’s mid-section will limit winter wheat emergence and establishment, especially in areas experiencing drought. During the weekend and early next week, sub-zero temperatures will occur across portions of the northern High Plains, while hard freezes (28° or below) will extend as far south as the northern panhandle of Texas. Unusually cold air will also engulf the Northwest, but warmth will linger in the Southeast and Desert Southwest.
