Jimmy Frederick, who farms near Rulo in extreme southeast Nebraska, set a new yield record for dryland soybeans this fall. He was able to coax 148.8 bushels per acre out of a five-acre area in one field. And he says the entire 204-acre field averaged better than 90 bushels per acre.
While record-setting yields are often associated with high levels of crop inputs, Frederick takes a different approach. He says he’s using a combination of reduced population rates and biologicals to obtain the higher yields.
