While US turkey consumption may decline this Thanksgiving because of COVID-19 related gathering restrictions, exports to Thailand are expected to increase.
Earlier this month Thailand opened the market for fresh US turkey meat for the first time in six years. The country put a ban on all US poultry imports after outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in California and Washington in 2014. Two plants in North Carolina are now approved to export raw turkey meat to Thailand for a three year period.
