Congressman David Scott will begin his role as chairman of the House Ag Committee when the new Congress convenes January 3.  

The Georgia Democrat will be the first African American to serve in that role.

“It is a glorious position for me to have the honor of being the first African American member of congress to become chairman of the House Ag committee and I owe all of that to the great diverse members of the Democratic caucus in the house who elected me,” he says.
