It was a warm, dry January for much of Wisconsin.

The USDA says that has led to variable snow cover, with parts of the state expressing concerns about wind erosion to topsoil and frost damage to overwintering crops.

The warmer temperatures have helped producers care for livestock, perform maintenance, and apply solid manure where permitted.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
