Michigan’s Health and Human Services Department says the state’s food processing and ag workers can start getting COVID-19 vaccines on March 1st.

The state estimates about 80,000 essential Michiganders in the food supply chain are eligible and immigration status does not affect a person’s ability to get vaccinated. The “1B” group is the largest essential worker segment to have access to vaccines to date.

Michigan Agri-Business Association president Chuck Lippstreu, who’s leading the state’s rural workgroup on vaccination strategies, says the announcement is very positive news to help keep the food and ag supply chain moving.
