Up to $8 million of milk per day are being lost in Texas following processing shutdowns caused by power shortages throughout the state.

Rolling blackouts across Texas have shut processing plants and farms off from electricity and natural gas for the past several days.

Select Milk Producers estimates losses of nearly $1 million per day while their plant idles after state officials took them offline to balance the power strain.

Texas Ag Commissioner Sid Miller says this week’s winter storm is having a dire impact on the state’s food and ag supply chain with similar shutdowns also taking place at feed mills, meat processing plants and other processors.
