A Nebraska lawmaker wants people to have the ability to bring a civil action  against companies that don’t safely dispose of treated seeds.

John Cavanaugh, a Democrat from Omaha, says his bill responds to inaction from the AltEn ethanol plant in Mead, Nebraska.

“We need to do something about this,” he says.

He says the toxic waste created from turning treated seeds into ethanol needs cleaning up at the plant.
