Illinois’ state climatologist says variances in soil moisture across the state makes it hard to predict planting dates for this year.
Trent Ford tells Brownfield, “All bets are sort of off in the southern half of the state just because of this rainfall we are going to have over the next few days. Depending on how much rain we get it could delay things a little bit for folks who were hoping to get in really early this year.”
Meanwhile in central and northern Illinois, soils are dryer compared to the last couple of years.
