A research science fellow says one of the best tools to help farmers grow a successful cotton crop is knowledge.
Jay Mahaffey, manager of Bayer’s Scott Learning Center, says planting is just the start. “We pick a variety and understand its nature and we plant it,” he says. “Then, the fight is on from then until the end of the season. Because you have all the things with insects, all the things with plant growth regulators, and then you have decisions about defoliation and management of fiber quality.”
He tells Brownfield much of the research at the Scott Learning Center is focused on helping growers optimize agronomic practices and maximize their return on investment.
