The USDA is hosting a listening session today on the Farmers to Families Food Box program.
Mae Wu is deputy under secretary of marketing and regulatory programs.
“We understand and have heard that this program served some communities very well but there were significant challenges in others,” she says. “In recognizing both the successes and challenges, we are currently reviewing the Farmers to families Food Box program.”
She says USDA is reviewing the program and hopes to find out…”what worked, what could be improved, ideas you may have that are completely different from the way the food box program was run this past year, and how can we get nutritious food to those who need it.”
The program was implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and has since delivered about 145 million food boxes with produce, dairy, and meat products to hungry families.
