Dry weather during March had an impact on South Dakota’s soil moisture levels and winter wheat condition rating.
The USDA says just 31% of the state’s winter wheat crop is in good condition, down 10% on the month, with another 48% called fair, up 5%, and in poor to very poor shape, also up 5%.
66% of topsoil and 75% of subsoil are short to very short of moisture, both increases from February’s update.
