Winter wheat has started to head according to the USDA’s first state Crop Progress and Condition Report for 2021.
Winter wheat is rated 74% good to excellent, more than 20 percentage points ahead of this time last year.
The report shows nearly 4 days were suitable for fieldwork last week which allowed some corn and soybean farmers to begin planting.
Topsoil moisture for the state is 70% adequate and 13% surplus with subsoil moisture only 11% short to very short, similar to this week in 2017.
