A corn farmer in northeast Iowa is nearly finished applying spring fertilizer.
Bob Hemesath of Decorah says he’s taking advantage of a mild end to winter.
“We got in the field the last day of March and started putting on anhydrous ammonia and been working since then. Had a little show this morning, but not enough to slow us down for more than an hour or two. But we’re hoping to finish up most of the anhydrous today.”
Fertilizer prices have skyrocketed the past few months, and Hemesath tells Brownfield he was fortunate to book all his anhydrous before the first of the year.
