For the remainder of the week, persistently cool weather will prevail from the northern and central Plains into the Northeast. Scattered temperatures below 20° will occur through mid-week across the northern Plains, while frequent freezes could affect areas as far south as the central High Plains. In contrast, much warmer weather will develop across the Far West, especially during the second half of the week. During the next 5 days, dry weather should cover the Pacific Coast States, Desert Southwest, and northern New England.
