A north-central Iowa farmer is concerned about dryness.

April Hemmes farms around a thousand acres of corn and soybeans south of Hampton.

“Boy do we need a rain (because) it is dry, and that is probably the scariest thing going in (to planting). I love dry springs, but we need rain bad for those roots to get some moisture.”

She tells Brownfield 2020 was dry too.

“And what saved me last year with our lack of moisture was I do a lot of no-till, so it holds that moisture in there pretty good.”

Hemmes says drainage tiles haven’t been running, which means they are going to have problems with dryness.
