The Iowa House passed legislation this week to help small meat lockers expand.
Republican Ross Paustian, who chairs the Ag Committee in the House, tells Brownfield the plan includes a $750,000 appropriation.
“And it’s just to help get the smaller lockers some more trained people, some startup money, and give the consumer more choices if they want to buy locally, they can go to a smaller locker plant that way.”
He says House File 857 was born out of supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19.
