Nearly 80 percent of the U.S. milk supply has voluntarily enrolled in the National Farmers Assuring Responsible Management environmental stewardship program.
National Milk Producers Federation’s senior director for sustainability initiatives Nicole Ayache tells Brownfield the program encompasses an array of practices and management that can benefit the environment.
“That’s anything from animal productivity, to feed efficiency, to animal health, to things you might think of as more classically environmental like cover crops, conservation tillage, buffer strips,” she says.
