Cool weather is likely to blame as corn planting in Iowa is pacing a little behind normal.
The latest weekly crop report from USDA says 20 percent of intended corn acres are planted, compared to the five-year average of 22 percent. Planting progress did jump 16 percentage points on the week despite below normal temperatures and some snow.
Soybean planting is 6 percent complete, three days ahead of average.
Iowa’s expected oat crop is 83 percent planted, about a week faster than the five-year average.
