Some farmers in the northern Corn Belt are concerned after waking up to frost Tuesday.
Ben Pederson of Lake Mills in north-central Iowa tells Brownfield the thermometer at his shop read 28 degrees.
“This morning my dad was out and he did find some neighbor’s corn that was dead, all the tissue above ground anyway.”
He says fortunately most of his corn seedlings remain underground.
“There’s going to be dead plants, (but) with the growing point for corn being below ground until about V4 or V5 I guess they’ll be okay.
