The USDA says upland cotton production for 2020 was 14.061 million bales, a drop of 5.166 million from 2019. That was because of lower harvested and planted area, which canceled out a year-to-year increase in national yield. 2019 planted area was 13.507 million acres with harvested area of 11.497 million, while 2020 planted area was 11.89 million acres with harvested area of 8.081 million. The 2019 yield was 819 pounds per acre, rising to 835 in 2020.
