As a whole, Illinois farmers are in the home stretch of planting season with 90% of corn and 80% of soybeans in the ground as of Sunday.
The USDA reports despite above average rainfall for the week, corn planting increased 4 percentage points to 11 points ahead of the five-year average. 74% of the crop has emerged compared to 63% on average. The crop is rated 84% good to excellent.
Soybeans are progressing well ahead of normal with planting 27 percentage points ahead of average and emergence reaching 60%, compared to just 35% at this time last year and 30% on average.
