A light scattered direct cash cattle trade is underway. Live deals are at $120, that’s $1 higher than last week’s weighted averages in the South and about steady. Asking prices are around $120 plus live in the South and $191 plus dressed in the North. Some bids have surfaced at $119 to $120 live.
Boxed beef is higher at midday on good demand for light offerings. Choice is $1.47 higher at $329.30 and Select is $1.67 higher at $305.06. The Choice/Select spread is $24.24.
At the Tri-State Livestock Auction in Nebraska, compared to last week steers 900-pounds were $3 higher. The USDA says demand was good on a good selection of feeders. Receipts were up on the week. Feeder supply included 82 percent steers and 87 percent of the offering was over 600 pounds. Medium and Large 1 feeder steers 859 to 886 pounds brought $137.10 to $137.50 and feeder steers 900 to 917 pounds brought $134.50 to $135. Medium and Large 1 feeder heifers 566 to 575 pounds brought $143 to $148.25 and feeder heifers 712 pounds brought $134.
Cash hogs are sharply higher at midday with solid negotiated purchases to start the day.
