Showers and thunderstorms in the eastern U.S. will mostly end Friday. However, rain will linger in the western Gulf Coast region, where 5-day totals of 2 to 6 inches or more could lead to renewed widespread flooding. In contrast, little or no rain will fall during the next 5 days from the Pacific Coast to the northern and central Plains and upper Midwest. In most of the dry regions, an early-season hot spell could lead to increased stress on pastures and crops, especially in areas experiencing drought.
