There’s a light, scattered direct cash cattle trade that’s underway. A handful of deals have been reported in eastern Nebraska at $190 dressed. The lone bid reported is in Nebraska at $120 live. Look for business to pick up as the day progresses.
Boxed beef is higher at midday on good demand for light offerings. Choice is $.28 higher at $338.88 and Select is $.65 higher at $309.82. The Choice/Select spread is $29.06.
At the Callaway Livestock Center in Missouri, compared to two weeks ago, steer calves 400-to-600 pounds were steady to firm, with spots of $2 higher on the 450-to-600 pounds steers, 600-to-700 pounds were steady to firm, with 700-to-900-pound yearling steers trading with a sharply higher undertone with a few good comparisons. Feeder heifers 400-to-500 pound were mostly steady to $3 higher, 500-to-600-pound heifers were steady to spots of $3 higher. There were several loads of heifers with good weighing conditions sold on an active market. Steers were also in good demand with overall quality very good. Medium and Large 1 feeder steers 605 to 645 pounds brought $157.50 to $168 and feeder steers 833 to 834 pounds brought $144.75 to $149.25. Medium and Large 1 feeder heifers 633 pounds brought $153.50 and feeder heifers 760 pounds brought $139.75.
Cash hogs are lower at midday with light negotiated purchases.
