During the next couple of days, lingering wetness from the mid-South to the mid-Atlantic could lead to additional rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches. During the weekend, however, favorably drier air will overspread the wettest areas, as showers shift into the Deep South.
Meanwhile, scattered showers and locally severe thunderstorms will dot the northern Plains and upper Midwest through Friday, followed by a period of hot, dry weather.
Elsewhere, occasional showers will affect the Northwest, while dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days across the southern Plains and from California to the central and southern Rockies.
