Continued wet weather across much of Tennessee is keeping many farmers from their fields. In West Tennessee, farmers who do have some drier areas are able to apply post-emergent herbicides, in the middle part of the state, farmers are waiting for drier weather so they can finish their first cutting of hay, and in Eastern Tennessee, wet, humid conditions are causing an increase in disease pressure.
Corn is 98% emerged, with 1% silking and 79% rated good to excellent. Cotton planting is 97% complete with 19% squared and 56% rated good to excellent. Soybeans are 76% planted and 68% emerged, 80% of the crop is rated good to excellent. Ninety-six percent of the winter wheat crop is coloring and 14% is harvested.
