A Minnesota farmer and crop insurance agent says crop insurance is an absolute mainstay.

Rob Tate told members of a House Ag subcommittee this week if Washington does anything on farm policy, it should DO NO HARM to crop insurance.

“In regions and crops where the program is not working optimally I’d urge USDA and Congress to work with producers to address these situations through the 508-H process, research and development and pilot programs, which are all authorized under the statute.”

Tate testified the government supports of 2020 were very much appreciated by farmers, “MFP, CFAP, Whip Plus and the pandemic assistance for producers have not been perfect but I would not want to imagine what farm country would look like without them.”

Tate says rising global demand and higher commodity prices this year are a relief.
