Across the Corn Belt, overnight downpours sparked flash flooding in northern Missouri and environs, where rain continues early Friday. Isolated totals exceeding 10 inches occurred north of St. Joseph, Missouri. Rain also extends northeastward into the lower Great Lakes region. Meanwhile, dry weather covers much of the upper Midwest, where topsoil moisture remains limited in many areas as corn and soybeans approach the weather-sensitive reproductive stage of development.
On the Plains, lingering heat is mostly confined to Oklahoma and Texas, where winter wheat harvesting continues to advance.
