Chicago Mercantile Exchange live and feeder cattle futures were higher in relatively light volume, watching the direct cash markets and squaring positions ahead of the long holiday weekend. August live was up $.85 at $123.57 and October was $1.10 higher at $129.25. August feeders were $1.70 higher at $156.32 and September was up $1.65 at $159.07.
Direct cash cattle trade was quiet on Thursday after moderate business Wednesday. Deals in the South came in around $121 live, about $3 lower than last week’s weighted averages.
