The USDA says farmers planted more sorghum in 2021 than in 2020.

That’s due to increased demand from China, which uses sorghum for animal feed and beverage alcohol, solid profit potential, and sorghum’s ability to grow in drier conditions when compared to other crops.

This year’s planted area is projected at 6.49 million acres, up 610,000 from last year, with harvested area seen at 5.785 million acres, 690,000 more than a year ago.
