Beef producers in the Upper Midwest are facing difficult decisions because of the drought.
University of Minnesota Extension cattle production systems educator Dr. Joe Armstrong says many farmers and ranchers are beyond the point of wait-and-see.
“It is too late for a lot of producers because we didn’t get enough rain early. A lot of it will have to do with how patient producers were early in the season. Did they let their grass grow or did they turn out cattle without grass being at the correct height?”
He tells Brownfield producers need to figure out how to save grass and body condition on cows.
